Inspiring History... Unforgettable Hospitality

The American South holds onto its history, and we take pride in what we have preserved of our past. The cannon anchoring the lobby of The Marietta Conference Center was originally deployed by the Georgia Military Institute. The Institute was established in 1851 as Georgia's first military school. It served the confederacy through the Civil War, and was burned during Sherman's march.

Through the decades, the site of the former Institute has served the people of Marietta as a private club, a civic center, and now as The Marietta Conference Center and Resort, where the technology of our modern day is fully integrated. What endures throughout is a distinct manner of Southern hospitality, at once both gracious and energetic.

Five neighborhoods and numerous public and private buildings are on the National Historic Register. Marietta’s backdrop is beautiful Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield and Park. Marietta has a vibrant downtown square filled with restaurants, antique shops and the fun-filled Glover Park. Marietta offers her residents and visitors parks, quaint streets, Victorian homes and historic sites.

From Civil War battlefields to museums and amusement parks, Marietta is host to a number of attractions geared to entertain a multitude of interests. Most of these attractions are open year-round, many at no charge. The Glover Park Concert Series is “the” place to be in Marietta the last Friday evening of each month April through August.

Marietta Parks and Recreation Department sponsors two Arts and Crafts Festivals each year. May-retta Daze is held the first weekend in May and Harvest Square is held the first weekend in October. Both shows have a history of over 25 years in the historic Marietta Square.

From the vintage 1898 train depot, now The Marietta Welcome Center, the antebellum Kennesaw House, home to the Marietta History Museum, and a vintage 1880 warehouse that today is home to the Gone With The Wind Movie Museum Scarlett on the Square, Marietta Square extends north to the Root House and across town to 1909 Post Office that today houses the Marietta/Cobb County Museum of Art.
