In Cool Pine Country...

There’s a crisp, invigorating freshness all around the Embassy Suites Flagstaff.
Indeed, the fragrant pines that surround the hotel and populate all of Flagstaff infuse the cool, crisp air. Here, small town charms and big city vitality exist side by side. This is Cool Pine Country, part of the largest concentration of Ponderosa Pines in the world. We’re proud stewards of this American treasure and the city itself is a creation of pride and patriotism. An early settler stripped a particularly tall pine of branches and attached a flag at its peak. Pioneers journeying west were told that when they saw the flagstaff, they had arrived at and ideal campsite. A tall pine flagstaff in our front lawn sends today’s traveler the same invitation. Rest and reinvigorate here. You are our guest, in Cool Pine Country.

The Arboretum at Flagstaff is home to one of the largest collections of high country wildflowers in America. Visitors will find 200 acres of botanical Gardens nestled within the world’s largest ponderosa pine forest. At an altitude of 7,150’ above sea level the gardens also included a research station and environmental education center. Elden Hill Golf Course, at 7,000’ above sea level is a design that features narrow, tree-lined fairways and small greens that are fast. In order to get a flat lie on the fairways, players need to hit a straight shot.

The Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff was founded by Percival Lowell in 1894. Observations at the observatory are rich in history including the discovery of Pluto by Clyde Tombaugh in 1930. The planet was named by British girls who named it after Pluto, God of the Underworld; because the planet is so cold and far away from the sun. The Arizona Snowbowl is located seven miles north of Flagstaff on Highway 180. It has a height of 2,300’, with the longest run, extending two miles, and offers skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Boarders are welcome and have their own terrain park in which to play.
