Johnson Space Center is home base for the men and women of NASA’s professional astronaut corps. The Johnson Space Centers civil service workforce consists of about 3,000 employees, the majority of whom are professional engineers and scientists.

Enjoy an out-of-this-world experience at Space Center Houston. The $70 million, 180,000-square feet, Disney-designed Houston Space Center facility features simulated space voyages, mission control panels and Texas’ largest giant-screen theatre. In 1938 James Marion West sold 30,000 acres in southern Harris County, including the West family ranch, to Humble Oil and Refining Company (later Exxon Company, U.S.A.) In 1961 the National Aeronautics and Space Administration selected Houston as the site for its Manned Spacecraft Center (renamed the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center in 1973).

University of Houston-Clear Lake is an upper-level and graduate university that serves more than 7,500 students. The campus is adjacent to the NASA Johnson Space Center and the Armand Bayou Nature Center.
